Recreational Gymnastics

This is a great starting place for the beginner gymnast aged 5yrs & up. Recreational gymnastics is divided into Junior and Senior Programs so that children are working at a challenging level in a program that best suits their age and ability level.

Motivation and a sense of achievement are important in all sports, and our recreational gymnastics programs (both Junior and Senior) are based around our “Gym Fun” system.

These gym classes are lots of fun while improving flexibility, co-ordination, strength & confidence. Children explore the different gymnastics equipment including beam, bars, floor, vault, trampolines, rings, P-Bars and air floor.

Tumbling is very exciting and Zone Active is the first club to offer a range of Tumble classes within the Port Stephens region.

In gymnastics, tumbling is an acrobatic sporting discipline which combines the skills of gymnastics and trampolining. It is practised on a 15 mtr long Air Floor. Students will learn skills such as Round off’s, back handsprings, somersaults, layouts, forward and backward roll variations, and how to link these skills together to perform a Tumble pass.

Tumbling requires immense physical strength, flexibility and stamina. To join a Tumble class at Zone Active we require students to take at least 1 or 2 terms of the gymnastics program.

Play Gym

This program is for children aged 3years to 4 years accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Our coaches are accredited Kindergym coaches with Gymnastics Australia and this program was developed by child care professionals and qualified gymnastics coaches. In fact, gymnastics has been widely acclaimed as the foundation of all sports, and greatly assists in your child’s development of co-ordination, confidence, creativity and self esteem in a safe and stimulating environment. But most importantly, it’s FUN!

The Kindergym program offers music and movement based activities such as balancing, sliding, climbing, jumping and rolling. We all know that children learn through play, but they learn much more through structured and meaningful play which is the focus of our Kindergym program. Classes are held during School Terms only.

The Joy of jumping and the sensation of flying through the air attracts a lot of interest in the sport of Trampoline. At Zone Active we can offer technical training in the sport of Trampolining. We are fully equipped with 2 Olympic size competition trampolines.

Students will learn single jumps like the pike, tuck and straddle position to more complex combinations like Forward and backward somersaults and, rotations/twisting in the air. We train a strictly limited number of students per class and class times fill up very quickly.

A Specialised guest coach also run’s a week end training session for the dedicated Trampolinist.
